At Beevar Homes, we believe in building more than just houses—we're committed to fostering vibrant, inclusive communities that celebrate diversity and cultural heritage. That's why we were thrilled to power the inaugural Ottawa Jollof Festival on August 31, 2025, at Andrew Haydon Park in Ottawa. This landmark event brought together thousands of people to honor African culture through food, music, fashion, and community spirit, marking a historic moment for the city's multicultural landscape.

Held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the scenic Andrew Haydon Park along 3127 Carling Avenue, the festival was free to attend, making it accessible to families, friends, and culture enthusiasts from all walks of life. The day kicked off with gates opening at 2:00 PM, followed by a warm welcome ceremony at 2:30 PM. Attendees dove into the Jollof Rice Cook-Off starting at 3:00 PM, where chefs and home cooks showcased delicious variations of the iconic West African dish, highlighting the friendly rivalry between nations like Nigeria and Ghana. A cultural ceremony at 3:30 PM set the stage for vibrant displays, leading into a Fashion and Art Showcase at 4:00 PM that featured stunning African designs and creativity.

The energy ramped up with a live band performance at 4:45 PM, accompanied by drummers, DJs, and dance performances that had everyone moving. The highlight for many was the Jollof Cook-Off judging and awards at 5:30 PM, where La African emerged as the winner, claiming the title for the best Jollof rice of the day. Throughout the event, families enjoyed kid-friendly activities, gift prizes, and a marketplace of vendors offering authentic African cuisine, art, and goods.

As the main sponsor, Beevar Homes played a pivotal role in making this vision a reality. Organized by filmmaker and cultural entrepreneur Niyi Akinmolayan in just three weeks with an incredible team, the festival was described as "legendary" and a true history-making occasion. Our support aligned perfectly with our corporate social responsibility goals, as we strive to contribute to Ottawa's community by promoting cultural exchange, supporting local charities, and building bridges across diverse groups. At Beevar Homes, an Ottawa-based leader in sustainable and affordable residential development, we see events like this as essential to creating thriving neighborhoods where everyone feels at home.

The festival's success was evident in the joyful crowds, colorful traditional attire, lively performances, and shared meals under the sunny skies. Highlights included bustling food stalls, group dances, and a sense of unity that resonated with attendees from Nigeria, Canada, and beyond. We're proud to have powered an event that not only celebrated African heritage but also strengthened Ottawa's multicultural fabric, supporting initiatives that uplift and connect our society.

Looking ahead, plans are already underway for the 2026 edition, and Beevar Homes remains dedicated to initiatives that enrich our community. Whether through innovative homebuilding or sponsoring cultural celebrations, we're here to build a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
